Maine

Lietuviškai

"If you do not like the weather, wait a minute" the locals told me. The weather was changing multiple times per day from the most dense fog to a completely clear sky. Our exploration of Maine was mystical, foggy, full of fishermen boats, lobster cages, fish nets and the most delicious seafood.

I am not a fan of seafood. I like it, but I can live without it for sure. Maine has completely changed my opinion. Any seafood you try here stays in memory forever. I am completely spoiled by mussels, lobsters and oysters. The only thing that I still cannot understand is how you can take a precious lobster and make junk food out of it called a "Lobster Roll".

There was another thing I have been wondering about for a while. I have been noticing huge five-pointed stars on residential houses for over a year now. From California to Maine, every time the same shape and almost the same size and color.

First, I thought it is a republican party icon to show off your political views. But my theory fell apart when I started seeing Biden posters in front of houses marked with a star. So I did some research online and it turns out that the star is just a popular house decoration across the states. People believe that it brings luck, similar to a horseshoe. I have even found some theories that masons and veterans mark their home with it.

Anyway, I found the star phenomenon unique and interesting to investigate since I kept finding these gigantic stars in antique stores and flea markets without any idea what they are for. It is one of these American things, that you will not read about in your tourist book while traveling across the US.
